Access Web Browser Control
I'm working on a project with a very specific user interface that I'm trying to achieve. I want to display text boxes inline within a user-supplied block of text. The text can vary in size, along with the number and location of the text boxes. There is simply no easy way to achieve this interface using Access forms.
This is the sort of thing that would be quite simple to achieve using HTML. So that's what I'm doing.
The project itself is interesting and the finished product will deserve an article of its own at some point. For now, though, I wanted to pass along the one reference that is making this endeavor feasible: Everything You Never Wanted to Know About the Microsoft Access WebBrowser Control, by Daniel Pineault. Enjoy!
Legacy vs. Edge
The page above contains information about working with the legacy web browser control. Beginning with Office 365, Microsoft is introducing support for a new browser control based on the Chromium browser engine with all that HTML5 goodness.
Daniel keeps his page updated. As of today, the page history lists six updates from October 2019 through November 2020.
There's very little good documentation available online for the Access Web Browser Control. That's part of what makes Daniel's page such a blessing. Hopefully, the new browser control will get a little more documentation love from Microsoft.
